Tigger & Pooh Birthday Cake Ideas

Tigger and Pooh are popular characters for children's birthday cakes, but it can be challenging to come up with creative ways to integrate them into the cake you're baking and still make them recognizable. There are three basic ways to accomplish this: the icing design, the 3-D cake and the cake-top figurine.

    1. The Icing Design

      • Probably the simplest way to create a Tigger and Pooh cake is to make a standard rectangular or round cake, and use colored icing to create the characters. Freezing your cake will make it easier to work with the icing.

Start by finding pictures of Tigger, Pooh and friends that you want to include, and make enlarged photocopies of them. Then trace your copies onto wax paper, and cut out the figures.

Put your stencil on the cake, and use a toothpick to trace around your drawings. Then connect the dots using a dark gel icing to outline the characters. Fill in the cartoons using colored icing in a tube; orange and white for Tigger, yellow for Pooh, pink for Piglet, purple for Eeyore and so forth.

      The 3-D Cake

      • Your base cake will still be rectangular, square or round, but then bake 3-D cake figures to go on top. Use either a standard teddy-bear cake mold for all the characters, or purchase separate molds made specifically for Tigger and Pooh. If using a generic teddy-bear shape, you can make them look like Tigger and Pooh by coloring and decorating them with icing; again, freeze all your cakes first.

Attach the bottoms of your cake figures to your base cake with icing. Then decorate one cake figure in yellow with a red T-shirt to be Pooh; make another one orange with black stripes and a white face and belly to be Tigger. If you want to add their friends, continue decorating more cake figures to look like Piglet or Eeyore. Kanga and Rabbit will be more difficult because of the long ears.

      The Cake-Top Figurine

      • Perhaps the easiest way to make an impressive-looking Tigger and Pooh cake is to purchase plastic figurines, and put them on your main cake like the bride and groom that top a wedding cake. You can decorate your main cake to look like grass or a path through the woods, or whatever other setting you'd like to see Tigger and Pooh in.
