A microwave oven, or microwave, is a kitchen appliance that uses microwave radiation to cook or heat food. This excitation leads food to be heated everywhere at once, a feature not seen in other heating techniques. Although microwave radiation can be dangerous, when used properly these appliances heat food quickly, efficiently, and safely. Microwave ovens have revolutionized food preparation since their use became popular in the 1970's.
