Hi, I'm Dori DeCamillis from Red Dot Gallery. Today, we're going to learn how to draw a fence. For my fence, I'm going to draw some lines of recession. This is the top and the bottom of the fence for now. It's good to have a straight edge. I'm going to draw the slats. I'm not going to draw them all with the straight edge, because I want to be able to see them a little easier. They are, though, going to get smaller as they go back in the distance. Not a lot, just a little bit. And then, you're going to have a small space between them. I'm not a big stickler on them being perfect, but. You want them to be parallel to the side of the page, which means vertical. From there, I'm going to draw little points at the top. You want the point to be centered mid-way in the slat as much as you can. You'll want to erase your line, your reference line. You can kind of solidify your points after that. And then, I'm going to give it a little three dimension, by running the sides of the slats along here. Oopsie! That one got a little off. And, from there, I can draw, I'm going to draw it with my straightedge, little structural board, it goes along the back. And, it needs to go slightly tilted up up here, and not so tilted up down here, so that it goes along with the bottom and the top of our fence. And, you can do some little nails if you want some detail. And, for fun, if you get rid of this line at the bottom, and give the bottom of your fence some structure, could even draw some grass around it if you got ambitious. You could draw some cast shadows, as if light were coming from behind the fence, and casting these. Now, if this were the case, the fence slats would be darker on the front side. You could go in and gray them up some. But, for now, we'll leave it with this. That is how you draw a fence.
