My name is Jenna Lee with Splurge Events and today I'm going to show you how to make a cheap flower centerpiece and actually the best way to make a cheap flower centerpiece is to not use flowers at all. We made these flowers out of paper. For this project you will need tissue paper, pipe cleaners, glass votives and tea lights, pearls and glass vases, scissors and a lighter. For the first step, you'll need to count out ten to twelve sheets of tissue paper. You fold them in half. After you've folded your tissue in half, you will take about two inches from the seam and fold it in one direction. Then you'll flip your tissue paper over and you'll fold it back the same width and you'll keep folding back and forth until you run out of tissue paper and it creates a fan. For the next step you take your scissors and you're going to cut a small slit in the middle part of the tissue on each side, really just about a half an inch will do. Once your slits are cut, you'll take your pipe cleaner and you'll wedge your pipe cleaner in between your slits and then you'll twist it closed on the other side. Sometimes it helps me to fold the paper in half and then twist it closed and with your scissors about half way up, you'll take each side and you'll cut a pedal shape. It doesn't have to be perfect and you don't want to start cutting from the center. You want to leave a section that remains folded. So about half way up your fold you'll start cutting and you want to make sure to grab all of your tissue paper and we're going to bring this one to a point. And then we'll cut the other side to match. When you're finished cutting it should look like this. So once you have your pedals cut and it's all fanned out, and then you'll start pulling up the tissue paper piece by piece. You just want to be as gentle as you can, just pulling it towards the middle. It really starts to make a beautiful shape once you get going. So once you've pulled about half your sheets towards the center on the front side, you'll turn it over on the back and pull those sheets up as well. So after you've pulled all of your tissue paper out and it looks something like this, you'll take your vase and your pearls and place them inside and then you'll just position your paper flower. Just move it into place with the other ones and you have a beautiful centerpiece. Again my name is Jenna Lee with Splurge Events and today I've shown you how to make cheap flower centerpieces using paper instead of flowers.
