Hi, I'm Nate Morton, and I play drums with Cher, and I live in Los Angeles, California, and this is how to learn to play drums at home. The smallest building block of drumming revolves around kick pattern, snare pattern, the simple relationship between the kick drum and the snare drum and the way to begin building that relationship, I found, is to start with a metronome like this one and set your metronome at a comfortable tempo and you can count out eight clicks with your metronome. So let's say here, so one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. So as my metronome is clicking out our five, six, seven, eight clicks, what we can do is maybe let's play the hi hat on all eight clicks like this, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Then we're going to add to our eight clicks, kick drum on the one and the five. So we're going one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. And next we're going to add our snare drum, one beat, three and seven, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, one, two. Now when you get that together, you're playing drums at home and there's your first basic simple brew. I'm Nate Morton and that is how to learn to play drums at home.
