Hi, my name is Kirk Wilson and I live in Los Angeles, California, and I perform live as well as studio sessions in Burbank and Hollywood and I also teach piano at Orchepia School of Music. And today, I'm going to show you how to learn piano by the chord method. For example, whenever I play Mary Had A Little Lamb is a, of course, I will get to play it too often; but, when I play Mary Had A Little Lamb, most people would play. Okay. But, if I'm playing that the chord method, then, I'm going to use the entire chord, kind of like in both hands and then, I'll take my left hand most of the time, that's my approach. So, whenever you play the, the chord method, it's a much fuller sound and you can hear the melody line in relation with the chords. So, whenever you do that, you have to recognize that what you're doing is playing a melody and you're also playing the, the, the fundamental chord progression of the song. So, when you play this melody here, you want to keep either your fifth finger or your fourth finger on this melody line. So, so then you're going to use the chord method. So, I'm actually using these three fingers and, but I'm using my thumb as well as these other fingers and I'm playing the whole chord the entire time. So now, if you don't know the chords that you want to play the piano by; let's say, let's say if you want to play; okay, now those chords that a lot of chords in, in Star Spangled Banner, the US National Anthem, but when you play the chords, okay, using the chord method, the first thing you have to do is establish the chord progression or the basic fundamental way that you're going to play that song. Once you played those chords, then, you play the melody with the chord. And my name is Kirk Wilson and that is how you learn to play the piano by the chord method.
