My name is Carol Hughes. I've owned Custom Costumes of Rochester for 25 years now. Today, I'm going to demonstrates some basics of costuming to you. How do I dress retro? Someone might dress retro for a play. They might dress that way for a murder mystery party, or you might just dress that way for the Opera. People like to be different when they go to the Opera. Well, you want to identify which period of fashion you would like to dress in. I find that the fashion changes not in the 0 year but in the 5 years so it goes from 1925 to 35 or 35 to 45 and so on. Those are similar looks. This is a Jackie O dress. It's black. It's A-lined and she wore pearls all the time so we've put pearls with it. Although she usually wore a pillbox hat I've put a different hat with it. Definitely a 60s hat. Oh, to find stuff like that, you'd have to go to a second hand shop, possibly antique stores and of course, costume shops. A grandma's attic, estate sales, garage sales, those would be good places to try. This is Carol Hughes, and that's how you dress retro.
