Hi, my name is Linda, and I'm here today at Essy's Rug Gallery to talk to you about losing weight with belly dancing. A couple of key factors in making sure that you're getting the most out of your belly dance workout are engaging your core muscles. There are a lot of movements that we have that really really need a lot of strength from the core and if you're forgetting to do that not only can you injure yourself, but you're also not going to get as effective of a workout. Engaging the core muscles make sure that you're activating lots of different muscular groups. It's going to make the movement look nicer and it's going to give you a much better workout. Also, you can add level changes to your dancing. So, maybe you're used to doing your hip shimmies at one level but if you can start gradually easing the knees a little bit lower then you'll find that it's a much better exercise. Also, if you decide to make a level change upward, going up on the toes with movements can add a lot more work. It tends to engage the leg muscles a lot more, not just in the calves but on the inner and outer thighs as well. So, you'll find that you have a much more effective workout using very simple movements. Other things that you can do to make sure that you're getting a great workout with your belly dance is to try traveling with the movements. Now if you're a beginner dancer sometimes that can be a little bit intimidating but just give it a try. Your teacher should be able to give you combinations of motions to make it really easy and segue you into a lot of different traveling movements. Also make sure that you're really working the technique the way that your teacher told you to. If she's telling you to watch your posture, go for it. If she's telling you to extend your arms more, do it because chances are those are things that are going to make sure that your heart rate gets higher and you sustain that and you're also going to get a lot more strength and cardio workout all at the same time just by doing the moves correctly.
