Hi I'm Dave Trull with The Trull Gallery, a custom furniture shop in St. Petersburg, Florida and I'm going to talk to you about how to operate a rivet gun. A rivet gun or a pop rivet, a really simple tool to operate. It works around a simple rivet and there is a ball at the end of this rivet attached to this shaft. Once the rivet is in place the gun actually pulls the shaft forcing that ball up into the housing and then it snaps off and that expansion is what holds the rivet in place. Today we are going to be using aluminum rivets. You can also get them in steel. This is an eighth-inch rivet and I have pre-drilled some stock and in this case I just, whatever I had kicking around the shop. I have got a piece of aluminum and a piece of Lexan and we're going to go ahead and pop these together. You can see it kind of comes out through the back and with our rivet gun it is going to be fully open and in this case this gun has three different heads. I have left the eighth-inch head in there. I'm going to set that down on top and kind of offset that so my rivet is down and not flush on the table and I'm just going to squeeze and that click has pulled the ball up into the sleeve and our pieces are firmly attached and the click you heard was actually that shift being sheered off. I'm Dave Trull with The Trull Gallery with the fine art of furniture making.
