"Hi this is Sandy Poltarack and I'm here on behalf of gladesguitars.com. Hi, I'm going to help you learn how to tune in open D tuning or D tuning. Remember that the strings are normally tuned E, A, D, G, B, and E and for open D tuning we need to adjust some of those notes. The first note that we need to adjust is this low sounding string. It's normally an E and we're going to bring it down a whole step to D and I'm using the tuner to help me find that pitch and I also could match it to the open fourth string which is also a D and I usually go just a little bit below and then tune up to it. So that is the D, is now the low E is now the D then we have A then we have D and the third string which is normally G now needs to be lowered a half step to F sharp and again I am going to use the tuner as a visual to help me find that and listen. Now the B string needs to come down a whole step to A and again I can use the fifth string to help me as a guide. I'm going to go a little below and then come back up and again I can use the tuner to help me find it and then the highest sounding string which is normally an E I have to bring it down a whole step to D. I'm just putting on some final touches and that's open D tuning. So you have D, A, D, F sharp, A and D and it's a great sound for playing in this open tuning and that's open D tuning. Thank you. This is Sandy Poltarack."
