This is a tankless water heater. They work a little bit different that than a standard tanked water heater, both electric and gas. They are similar to a gas, but not the same. They work more as an on demand system. What that means is that when you turn the faucet on in the house the water runs through it, and it heats the water right then and there as it comes through it and comes out. They work off of two principles both gas firing, and also water flow. So as the water is needed, more water is needed it expands, and creates more flame, and turns a gas valve on higher and higher as it more demand is met and needed. What you do is you select a temperature inside of the unit or some of them have a separate demand and control where you can dial up a certain temperature. And you turn it to that temperature, and turn the faucet on, the water comes through the unit on the cold side, runs up and through a coil that is run through a heat exchanger, and it comes out the hot side at the desired temperature that you have selected or that is selected inside of the unit itself. Now it does all this in a matter of a few seconds, and through several feet of tubing inside of the unit. And it is basically something that it is more of a technician minded thing. It is not something that you want to involve yourself in too much as far as troubleshooting.
