"Hi I'm Tim Gipson, I'm going to talk to you about how to build a workbench. Now an easy way to do it is to get yourself a rolling drawer system such as this and a cabinet and then all we need to do is build a counter top to go over it. Important essentials in having a workbench is having some area for storage which includes a combination of a drawer and a cabinet. But if you have a small garage this makes for a good setup. And essentially what we do is we use the base cabinet here as our primary building piece and we make some legs out of 2 x4's so that the height of the 2 x 4 is the same height as the top of the cabinet. And then all we need to do is take a piece of 3 quarter inch plywood, trim it out with some trim and set it down on top of our cabinet and on top of these legs. And of course these legs are just screwed and attached into the underside of the table on this end. Now what works nicely is that this rolling cabinet here actually slides in and slides out so that you have some versatility with your workbench. This gives you a nice surface and it gives you a surface that is about 24 inches deep which is about the maximum that you'd want to have for a typical workspace like this or a workbench. And 18 to 24 inches on the depth is going to give you plenty and this is about 6 feet wide. Now a nice element that you can do over the top of it is put a pegboard over here and you want some depth behind your pegboard so what we do is we take our trim and we route a dowel in the trim that's a quarter inch and basically build a frame around this pegboard and attach it to the wall and then you can even finish it with more storage by putting some wall cabinets over the top of this and then just painting all your wood pieces to match whatever your laminate cabinet that you get as the drawers. So I'm Tim Gipson and that's how to build a workbench."
