"Hi in this lesson we're going to learn a killer lick that's really fun in the style of Jimmy Hendrix, Satiani and Steve Vai. It's in the key of E and starts in the twelfth position using the E Minor pentatonic scale. Listen to the way the pull off sounds in conjunction with slides and hammer-ons and notice how we change neck positions continuously while staying in the same key and scale. I'll play the lick four times for you, let's listen at full tempo, three, four. Now let's break it down. Now what's really cool about this lick you're picking one time and the entire thing is based on pull offs and hammer-on's. You are going to start with your pinky on the B string on the fifteenth fret and then you are going to stay on the B string for the entire lick. You are going to pull off by snapping your finger off of the string so that the sliding of your finger as it comes off makes the strong vibrate using your finger as a pick. Slide with your first finger down two frets, you are always going to be sliding with your first finger so the first three notes are, your hammer-on the twelfth fret with your ring finger. Now hammering on is the same thing as pulling off. You are just reversing it. You are forcefully putting your finger down on the fret. It is a good thing to practice, just this right here, pull off, hammer-on, pull off, hammer-on. Make it sound as if you have a pick in your hand. From the top, pull off again, first finger, slide down two frets. Take it from the top again, from here back pull off to your first finger, slide down three frets to the fifth. You are still on the B string, hammer-on again with your pinky on the seventh, on the eighth rather, excuse me. Let's take it from the top, pinky, pull off again, with your first finger on the fifth fret, slide down two more and hammer-on the fifth and that's how you end it. Let's hear the whole thing. All on the B string picking only one time. It's really cool. Now what's cool about this lick also is that you can do the same exact lick in reverse, always slide with your first finger. The same exact lick just backwards. All on the B string and all still in E Minor pentatonic. Now let's try it again this time with the half speed backing track, three, four."
