"Today I'm going to talk about how to design your book cover. When you design a cover for your book, the first thing you want to do is make a trip to your local bookstore and take a look at the books and see what draws you in, what catches your attention. Is it the bright and colorful color of the books? Or is it big headings? If you have your own cover picture that you want to use on your book, make sure your publisher knows. This person had their own picture of their children that they wanted to use on their cover. If you want your publisher to pick the cover then tell them what colors you want to use, and they will sit with you and help you design the cover that you want. Such as this person did. The main thing with designing a cover is deciding whether you want the picture to be the main focus or if you want the words to be the focus. Many self-publishing companies also use templates. They'll give you five choices to choose from, and then they plug in your title and name on the template. Some self-publishing companies like Published By Westview sit down one on one with the author and help them design a custom cover just for their books. But that's one of those decisions that you need to make when deciding what publisher to go through. Whether or not you're going to use a template for your cover or self-design one for yourself."
