"Joel Hickerson from grindog.com. We are going to draw a very simple bear. Now our bear is longer than he is tall unless you put him on his hind feet. We are going to draw ours walking. So we are going to turn our sketch pad sideways, start with an ellipse from the body. Now a bear is a big animal with a small head so we are going to draw a big ellipse for the body of our bear and a smaller circle for the head of our bear. A bear has got four legs, two at the back and two at the front, two eyes, one eye, two eye and you will want the eyes at the top of the head and a nice circle for our bear's nose. A smile for our bear's mouth and then circular ears and maybe a little tuft of circle for the tail, thicken up the legs, draw an ellipse for the feet and that gives us pretty much all of our construction lines that we need and that is what we do with our pencil, we use the pencil to draw the construction lines and the marker to draw the finished piece. So come back with our marker and let's start at the nose and draw the bear's nose and the eyes. Now these pencil lines remember are more guides than anything else. So you don't have to follow them exactly. In fact you can kind of create your own as you go. Get the bear's ears and maybe put a little hair right on top. Come around with a nice semicircle for the head, a half circle for his smile. Now the front leg is going to be behind the bear so we are going to move the body in front of that and the second leg is going to be in front of the body so we are moving our second leg in front, in front of the belly and in front of the third leg which is behind the body, the fourth leg which is in front of the body we are going to move to the front, there is a little tuft of tail maybe wagging. Come up for the body and now we pretty much have the bear drawn basically. We will come back with our eraser and we erase all of these construction lines that we created our bear from. Be careful, it is important to remember when you draw your construction lines to do them very lightly so that you can come back and erase them easily. When you have erased them you can look and see some things that maybe a bear has left out like paws, toes, and maybe a little more hair on him, cheeks and anything that makes this bear look more like a bear. Maybe he is in the grass, these are justs some things to enhance the drawing. That's how you draw a simple bear."
