"My name is Anthony Maddaloni and I'm going to be talking about how to publish a photography book. One thing you want to think about when you're photographing, when your trying to publish a book of your photographs is what are you going to do. What's your subject matter? And you should keep it to something you know quite a bit about and something that makes nice book sense, images that relate to one another. So that's the first thing you want to think about. Number two is, how do I shop this book? What do I do once I have this collection of images? I have to go around to certain publishers and really try to sell my idea for a book. And you're really going to need to craft your pitch, so to speak. You can't just show up one day and say, "hey, I've got an idea." Or you can, but that idea has really got to sound good and lucrative and actually make nice photographic sense as it relates to each other. One way that I, you can do it also is by create your own book. You can, there's desktop publishing, that's one way you could certainly make a mock-up of this book. One way that I like to use my image to make money and also potentially sell books, is Photographers' Marketplace, you know, I use this book a lot. It's a huge book it comes out every year. It's stack full of people, of companies that are looking for images. And I look at what things are popular when I try to incorporate that into what type of book I want to make. When I want to make a book about classic cars or I want to make a book about old farmhouses in rural Kentucky, these are things that are really, people will actually show interest in. And that is how I would go about getting my photo book published."
