"Hi. This is Yvonne Chow from the Blade Dance Academy in New York City. In this clip we're going to talk about how to find hip hop dance classes. Now, the main way to get a very good education in hip hop dance, or in dance in general, is to go to a school. There are two schools in New York City for hip hop dance. They are the Blade Dance Academy and the Hip Hop Dance Conservatory. If you're not in New York City the best thing to do is to find a local school that teaches hip hop dance. Now you have to go to the actual class and have an experience with the teacher. You want to make sure that the teacher has an understanding of the foundations of the elements of hip hop which means they should have some type of knowledge of popping, locking, and breaking and how to add those elements together to create choreography. Furthermore, they should be able to tell you how to attenuate to the music. They should understand counts. They should understand tempo and musicality so that they know how to teach you how your body should be in relation to the music. Moreover, you always want to make sure that your hip hop dance teacher knows how to teach a movement and not just show you movement. Teaching movement means they should be able to explain it to you.
