"Hi. This is Yvonne Chow from the Blade Dance Academy in New York City. In this clip we're going to talk about how to choreograph a hip hop dance routine. The first thing you want to do is make sure that the accompaniment, or the music that you choose, has some type of message that you also want to send in your dance. So you want to make sure that there's some type of purpose to your movement. Also, when you choreograph your dance routine you want to make sure that your movements are not contrived, but that you do whatever it is the music is asking you to do. For example, one of the elements of this is perpetual motion. So for example, if we were to glide to the right hand side. So we're going to glide to the right hand side. Naturally you want to use your left foot next. So you would use your left foot and maybe spin around. Now if you were to glide again to the right, but then you wanted to spin backwards. Say you wanted to use your right foot again and spin again, that breaks perpetual motion because you're using your right foot twice. So you're gliding and then you're breaking that perpetual motion. Now let's watch again as we do right and left. So we glide to the right. We use our left foot which is open to turn again. Now this makes the movement look more natural on the body. This has been Yvonne Chow with how to choreograph a hip hop dance routine."
