Hi, I'm Jay French, at Jay French Studios.com. Today I'm going to teach you how to draw a skull. You can start, unlike when you're actually drawing a head with skin on it, you can actually start this with a sphere, not an oval or egg shape. Because that is the ball of the cranium. From there we want our symmetry. The easiest point is to put in the cheekbones now. About halfway through this, you have the indent, essentially, of the temple. From there, you pronounce out with the cheekbones. They are, sort of, a squarish circle, or rounded corners on a square. Then you come in and get the top of the mouth. We're not going to detail the teeth right now. All right. Halfway between that center line and the bottom of your sphere, is approximately where you want, I'm going a little higher you will notice, the basically spearhead shape of the nasal cavity, the nasal bone. You darken that in, leave a little segment to there to show the septum division. Here, now you can see better what that's...what's going on here. This line is approximately the top of the eye socket. Eye sockets generally go up towards the center. Or again, slightly squared circles, or rounded corners on a square. Now if you want to draw, like a, mean looking Halloween skull, you can change this direction. It's not realistic, but it's a lot of fun. Now, we're going to add a little more shape to the skull, go a little wider on this, on the outside. And let's get the mandible, jaw. It comes in just a little short of the cheekbones, get that squareness. Make sure you get a flatness on the chin. Bottom teeth, and then the separation. And that's your basic tutorial with how to get started at drawing skulls.
