Series Summary

Origami, a form of visual representation defined by the folding of paper, originated in Japan in the 1600s. Since then, this ancient art has become a popular hobby for many around the globe. Origami has been popular in the United States and England since the early 1900s, but did you know that the first published origami book, 'Hiden Senbazuru Orikata' (which translated to English means 'Secret of 1,000 Cranes Origami'), was published in 1797? Origami is regarded as a complicated and delicate art form, and in this free video series, a graphic design artist demonstrates how to use origami to fold pieces of paper into unique pieces of art. Some of the patterns and designs include paper hats, paper planes, butterflies, balloons, paper boats and flowers. With these origami folding instructions, a simple sheet of paper can quickly transform into a work of fine art.

"When we're done reading the Sunday paper, I'm going to teach you how to do something that's really great with it and it'll be a lot of fun for you. My name is Robert Segundo and today I'm going to teach you how to make a paper hat. Here's our piece of paper, we're done reading it. What we're going to do is, since we already have it, we're just going to kind of take it and fold it in half like so and then place. Now, what we're going to do, here's our open end down here, we're going take and just kind of fold these corners down like so into the center of it, just roll this over like so. There you go, this doesn't have to be too exact. There we go. Now, what we're going to do, is we're going to take these corners here and fold them up so it'll hold this piece into place. I'm going to rip this a little bit down here on the end. Roll it up like so. Now, flip it over and fold the other side up as well. Oops. There we go. That's not going to cooperate, that's all right. So fold this side, flip it over, slide it back down. Fold it back up, give it just a little bit more, we're going to take and we're going to fold this corner in, like so. This corner in like so. We're going to take and we're going to fold it up one more time, just a little bit of a rip here on the edge so it'll fold back up like so. Flip it over fold it up. I just kind of open it up. There you go, There's your paper hat. Now, you're styling. My name is Robert Segundo and enjoy your paper hat."
