Okay, for anybody out there that does oil painting, I'm sure you know of a technique called glazing or layering of colors. You can do that with watercolor painting as well, and you can do it in a couple of different ways. You can use a watercolor pencil and this is one of the ways that you can just simply put the paint down on the paper, with your pencil, and then instead of going over that with a brush with clear water, once you've experimented with this and you have an idea of what's going on, you can simply choose a color, and this is a bright turquoise as you'll see there. But I know I don't particularly want bright turqoise, I'd like it a little muted. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to go over that with a little bit of gray, and instead of this bright turqoise, what you're going to see is a turquoise that's a little muted down and some different tones. So you're basically layering your colors which is how you can keep them clean and how you can keep them vibrant. You can also layer a layer of watercolor on top of another layer of watercolor, it doesn't have to be the pencil. And that's how you can achieve some vibrant watercolors by using an oil painting technique called layering or glazing.
