"You know sparklers for children can add a lot of fun and excitement to any party or holiday event. Hi I'm Captain Joe Bruni with over three decades of firefighting and emergency medical service experience. Children love to have sparklers during the fourth of July holiday or other types of functions and party. However before children are allowed to handle sparklers they should be taught and understand the safety aspects and components of handling sparklers. It should always come under the close supervision of a competent adult who is a responsible individual to oversee children who may be using sparklers. To stay completely safe, sparklers should be kept out of the hands of children under the age of five years old. They don't understand the safety and the burn injury potential that could come from the consumer type of sparkler. However, children who are older then five can have a great deal of fun if using a sparkler under the close supervision of an adult. Teaching them all the safety aspects of a sparkler such as keep it at arms length, do not wave it, do not throw it, do not point it at another individual. And when finished, either stick in dry sand or a close bucket of water to ensure extinguishment. I'm Captain Joe Bruni stay safe and we'll see you next time."
