"So for this exercise we're going to practice the bow hold stretch so I want you to just put your violin down and take your bow. And a, when you have it in your finger try stretching it out a little bit like this and then bringing your fingers back up again. This is a good exercise to do because it helps you gain stability in your fingers. It also has, it allows your hand to practice that flexibility that you'll need when you're playing. You don't want your hand to be really stiff while you're playing so you want to practice these stretches to help your fingers relax more. You can also do exercises without your bow in the beginning with just your bow hand and then take your bow and try doing stretches like this. If you do this it'll help loosen up your fingers so that when you do start playing your actual bow movement will almost kind of mimic the exercises that you're doing because when you're playing you want your fingers to be moving a little bit. You want them to give a little bit as you're bowing up and down."
