Joel Hickerson, GrinDog.com. Today we're going to draw a fist. First you start off with a circle, it gives you a point of reference for your page. Now I always like to start with a pencil because it's a lot easier to make your construction lines with a pencil and then you can come back with an eraser and erase the lines that you don't want. Start off with your circle, to kind of give you a point of reference on your paper, and then I start with the fingers. If you look at your fist you have four fingers, so 1, this is the biggest one, the middle one, 2, 3, and the littlest finger, 4. Now the way you're supposed to make a fist is, your thumb is supposed to come outside the fist, so we'll do a little side lips for a thumb. There's a meaty part of your hand right here that you're going to draw, which is another circle. So there you have all your basic construction elements. Now you come back you do your wrist, you add some little things to make it more hand like and less shape like. And if you draw them lightly enough now it'll be real easy to erase after you put the lines you want. Now I come back with a marker and add the lines I want to keep. I usually start with whatever is in front, like this will be the thumb, come back, make a thumb, middle finger, third finger and little finger, like that. You usually just see the edge of that finger, it gives a little bit of depth and dimension, okay. That's the only- if you want to add a thumb now or nails, that's really the only ones that show. Okay, now like I said, if you've done it right, you should be able to come back with your eraser and get rid of all these construction lines that you don't need now. But remember to draw in pencil the construction lines light enough so that when you come back with your eraser they disappear. Now that you've got your basic drawing you can come back and add shading. If you look at your hand there's wrinkles all over your hand and you can add some of those wrinkles if you like, a little bit of shadow between the fingers maybe, things like that to make this look a little more like a fist. And that's how you draw a fist.
