"How to perform a pirouette. Pirouette, or turn on one foot, has three very important components to it. First of all, we have the spot of the head, which means that our head has to freely move, and find our positioning back again. We also have to think about our arms, or our Port de bras position. We don't want our arms to open too far to the side, and we want to make sure that we're pulling them back in, with shoulders down and straight, and the third component, are our legs. It is important to note, that you are not executing a pirouette correctly, unless you are very high on relev?, or rise to the ball of the foot, during the turn, as well as a pass?, or retir? position, toe to the front of the knee. It is important to know, that you are not executing a pirouette correctly, unless you are on a high relev? position, no flat footed turns. The first pirouette that I will demonstrate now, is called the Pirouette En Dehors. En Dehor rhymes with out the door. What that means, is that we'll be turning our body, away from our supporting leg. We start with a tendu to second position, demi pli? to fourth. As I rise up, I will pick up my back foot to a pass? or retir? position, and turn away from my standing leg. Now, a Pirouette En Dedans, is an inside turn. It means that I will be turning towards my supporting leg. I will start in tendu, pli? fourth position. At this time, my back leg will relev? into pass?, and I will turn towards the supporting leg. You can also do an Inside Pirouette, adding a fouett? first, taking the leg to second position, before you pull it into pass?."
