"Designing your mosaic can be one of the most fun, or one of the most challenging parts of the process. One thing to consider when you're a beginner mosaic artist, is to have really basic designs. Don't pick anything too complicated. So, one thing to think about is maybe choosing a circle, or a flower, or a heart, something really simple that you can learn the technique with. Or you can just choose some beautiful colors and let those colors be a design of their own. For this project, we have just a very small frame, so there's not a lot of room for design. I think we're going to make this more of a random project, but if you have a bigger space, you have a lot of room to design anything you want. Feel free to draw that on your substrate, so you know, have guidelines for when you mosaic. If you're having trouble coming up with design ideas, don't worry. There are lots of mosaic books, and design books at your bookstore and at the Library. You can also check the internet, see other artists' work or design ideas, to help get you started."
