Alright now, I'm going to show you a few pointed brushes that can be used for lettering. And there are really, again, just a whole bunch of different sizes and shapes, but basically speaking, we're talking about a brush that is not a square. It does not come off as a flat. It's a pointed brush. So, a lot of times, doing pointed brush work, the quality of the texture of the paper matters. Here's the distinguishing characteristic of the C. So in a case like this, in brush lettering, calligraphers often like to leave little white spaces. Sometimes they're referred to, it's referred to as flying white. And you know what? This has to do with a principle. Let me see if I can do a better example of this. OK, I did do it. It would be nice if I could be more controlled. But remember I told you about how the eye tends to connect parts? Well, I don't know if you can see this or not, but right there in that little tiny area right there, I didn't connect this stroke to this stroke, and it looks fine. You know, this is a piece of lettering that's extremely relaxed. It is getting it's point across I think. But because the eye, remember that idea that the eye tends to connect parts? So the eye connects that and does read it as a W rather than two Vs. So there you go and then I guess, what I want to show you is this brush that I referred to before. This is, you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to take my trusty little drawing board and give it a little height.
