"Another great tool for improving your performance or improving your business, because you are running a business, is going to be found in a lot of different organizations that you can find out there on the internet and just in general out there in the world. There are places that are set up to help independent artists. You can go to CD manufacturers who are set up to run low run, low volume CD manufacturing and most of the time they will have seminar series, or they will actually put out seminars. They will put out all sorts of band competitions so that independent artists will have more resources where they can check out stuff. Now you can easily get a lot of these resources without having to pay for them. They give them to you a lot of times free whenever you actually make a CD order, so once you've made your CD order you can actually benefit from all of their experiences they've accumulated. There's other things like ASCAP. Once you've joined ASCAP or any of the other musical organizations that register and copyright material, they usually send out a newsletter and I take the time to just look over them when they're coming out. Most of the time by now they're sending me stuff that I already know. But occasionally they'll send me some thing that's a really good tip of how to get my music out to a different market or a different area of consumer that I wasn't reaching before. If I go and I find out, like if there are some other books that are out there that are available. There are great books on marketing, on how to sell yourself and how to show people what you have to offer that you can find at any local bookstore which will help you to improve your tactics of actually getting people to listen to what you have to say. There are also, there are a non-profit organizations that actually teach people how to do business better. The thing is, is to find out as many resources as you can about these things. There are, a lot of them are free and you can learn all you can from them and then go out and if you have to spend money to get more in touch with them or something, if you have the money to spend do that. But the resources are there and they're available so make sure that you learn from the experiences of others who are trying to give their stuff to you."
