A Production Coordinator wears a lot of hats. What the Production Coordinator actually does will vary from production company to production company, but a Production Coordinator does, as the title says, coordinates the productions. So he'll actually work very closely with the Producer and the Director. Sometimes the Production Coordinator will actually do things like handle the budget, make sure that the film stays on budget, coordinates things as they happen within the production, keeps everything on schedule, and depending on which production company that he works with, he may do things as tedious as making sure that the lunch is ordered and the actors are prepped for the production before they go on set. So depending on which production company the production coordinator works with, he may or may not do certain things. But guaranteed, Production Coordinator will wear a lot of hats. So a Production Coordinator could actually be responsible for a lot of the production process. Sometimes they'll even get involved in the editing process or be in the editing room along with the Editors to find out what they need for the particular production. So a lot of times they'll facilitate things that are happening within the production process and they actually make sure that it all goes smoothly and it's all coordinated properly.
