Hi my name is Sam Lewis from madebysam.com and I'm here to talk to you about putting a zipper in a pillow case and actually we're going to put a pillow case around a zipper much easier that way. The first thing to do is do not be intimidated by zippers. They are the thing that everyone is afraid of, nothing to it. Take your pillow case blank on the side that you want to put the zipper on, go ahead and line up the good side of your fabric, the outside of the zipper, line them up with the edge of your zipper approximately 5/8 of an inch from the edge of your fabric. Go ahead and pin every six to eight inches along your zipper, good side to good side. Set the presser foot down with the zipper caught underneath the little ledge. Catch it first and then just holding everything close and solid. Now run it down roughly an inch from the edge, pull it out, cut it off, pull your zipper down beyond where you were working, reinsert and continue your stitch line to the edge. Unpin your fabric and you have one half of your zipper. To finish your zipper joints do exactly the same procedure on the other side with your other piece of fabric, pin this side exactly as you did the other side, good side to good side. Once you have attached your second side, flip everything inside out and finish your other edges like you would any other seam. The only thing you'll have to do at the very end is in the corners where the hardware where the zipper is you are going to have to do some hand stitching to close the corners. Otherwise that's all you have to do and that's how you put a zipper in a pillow case.
