In video or photography lighting is key. There are different types of lighting that will give you different types of effect for different types of portraits. How do you go about understanding different lighting techniques and different lighting? Well first off you have to know the basics. You have different types of lighting which are, for example, you have a hard light, which is an open-face direct light source which will shine on the subject and as you can see it's really hard on the back of my head. You also have a soft light. A soft light is actually a light banked at, the lighting is diffused. I'm very close to this lighting and it's a high wattage light so it's going to be very harsh on me, but it's a diffused light. So as you can see, there is actually a bank that diffuses the light. Those are just a couple of different lighting sources that we have. If you want to learn more about lighting it's important that you get into some schooling or get with a production company that handles lighting, or a photography company that handles lighting on a daily basis.
