Hi, I'm Professor Betty Brown and I want to speak to you about the blaue reiter art movement. In the early twentieth century there were dozens of avant garde movements that challenged the historic nature of art. One of these was the blaue reiter or because it was German, perhaps I should say der blaue reiter. Anyway, the blaue reiter movement sought to impassion the art work with an expressive verb that just kicked everything up to the next level. So, rather than having colors that were naturalistic, they were brighter, more intense, more emotionally charged, they were angular and hard, and intensified psychologically. The blaue reiter wanted to infuse a spiritual, emotional quality into its work, into their works, I should say, and they wanted to do so to challenge the very passive lassaiz faire acceptance of culture as it was.
