Summary: The delay compensation view in Pro Tools allows users to keep track of the delay added to their mixes. Delay specified audio regions with the tips in this free Pro Tools video lesson for version 6.9 from an experienced music engineer and producer.
"The delay compensation view is a very important view. This basically allows you to delay like audio regions, by certain samples and takes and things like that. If you want to view your delay compensation, you just have to go to display, make sure you go to the mix window. Mix window and turn on the delay compensation view. You can only really see the delay in the mix window, just all the time, within the edit window you could also see it but you kind of got to change these parameters in here. So the mix window is kind of a better look for it. When you look at the window, you can actually see right here, the plus and minuses for all your different delays and things like that. This way you can delay certain tracks and things, and you can switch things around pretty easily, it's not very hard. When doing this you might want to like set a high hat back or you might want to set a snare a little bit late, or maybe move things a little forward by like a few milliseconds just to add some type of like dragging feel or more of like a leading feel. This could all be done within this view, this view gives you an accurate description of all the tracks so you could see which ones are being delayed a little bit and which ones are being brought forward a little bit."
