"Now we are going to go over our altered scale which is actually the 7th mode of harmonic minor but there is an easier way to think of it. What it really boils down to is it starts off as a diminished scale and goes into a whole scale. So we are going to take a look at it on the keyboard first. So here's our F and if we started a diminished scale, we have a half step, whole step and then the rest are all whole steps and that comes out of G flat harmonic minor. So nice fun chord and that is your altered scale and it is also used as a minor 2-5. If you use a 2 diminished going into a 5 altered, it's a minor 2-5. So that is your altered scale which is a diminished scale going into a whole tone scale starting on the root of that. "
