Series Summary

Tattooing is the art form of injecting ink in patterns underneath the skin. It is a permanent procedure that leaves the mark on the body for life. It has been a part of human culture as far back as the Neolithic age. It has always had many different purposes. It is artistic, for decoration, for identification or even for religious purposes. There are some wonderful things about tattoos and tattooing as a profession, however, of course there are negative correlations as well so make sure that when you choose your tattoo you will enjoy it for a very long time. After all it’s your body and you only have one.

This is a fantastic clip series that walks you through the tattooing procedure step by step from the decision to become a tattoo artist to preparing your equipment for tattooing to the completion of an actual tattoo. You will learn every facet of the art as our expert explains everything he does and why. If you’re thinking of taking up tattooing this is a must see series. Are you already a new tattoo artist and looking for the best place to get your supplies? We’ve got a video for that too. Whatever level artistry you are there’s something here for you!

on 5/19/2009 This man is NOT a "PROFESSIONAL" and is NOT showing anything correctly. This is not something you can or should learn by watching a DYI video. You are dealing with public heath and it should be taken very seriously. If this is a career you want to pursue, do yourself and the Tattoo industry a huge favor and seek out an apprenticeship. First and foremost you must be an "ARTIST" before you pursue this. If not, you should not try this period. There is much more to it than tracing lines and coloring inside them. I have been tattooing professionally for 13 years and I am deeply offended that, someone would not only make a DYI tattoo video but, someone who is clearly not a professional. His practices are unsafe and improper. Please remove this series of videos and others like it.

Video Transcript

"My name is Jesse Bradley, I'm here on behalf of expertvillage. com and we're going to discuss tattooing and the basics of tattooing. I got into tattooing roughly three and a half to four years ago and the desire came from having the ability to draw throughout my whole life and I thought that may be a good opportunity to make some money, and it's a good profession. At that point, I started to seek out an apprenticeship, which was extremely difficult to find at the time due to not a lot of good tattoo artists have the free time, and like I said, it's also very expensive. The first opportunity that I got once I had begun the interest in tattooing was with a company called "Skin Candy" who is one of the largest ink or pigment manufacturers for the tattoo in the world right now. And, that was really a blessing in disguise because I got to really see the inside and what's behind tattooing and that's what goes into our skin. Through that I learned to mix ink and they provided ink for companies such as "Miami Ink", I'm sure everybody knows about the TV show "Miami Ink" and I did that for about a month and then I got an apprenticeship for the man named Jimmy Clutch, who worked there, who was just a phenomenal tattoo artist. We worked together for about two months, it was a brief apprenticeship and he had to move but I learned the basics of tattooing and needle making and so forth through them. That's where the first opportunity came, and that was what furthered my desire of tattooing and I saw that it was going to begin to unfold as long as long as I focused on what I wanted to do. So, from there I began to tattoo myself, the most difficult thing with tattooing isn't if you can, you know if you can draw you can tattoo, this is true, but skin types are very different. Everybody's skin is different and different areas of the body are different. And, also if the, if somebody's drinking, you can't tattoo them, they bleed too much."
