"Today we are replacing a bad thermostat. Now once you have it removed from the wall, you’ll have to scrape this and repaint it, I’m sure. But you want to make sure to get the right thermostat because you can cause some damage to your A/C or heater unit. You want to just first take the cover and you want to figure out if it’s just the heater, if it’s just an A/C to cool the air and if it has an automatic setting of you have to turn it on and off manually. But in this case it’s a heating and cooling unit, and you can both turn it on or it can be automatic- so you want to get the exact same thing. Any brand is fine as long as the wires that are used have corresponding letters. Like, W is for white, R is for red. There’s R1 and there’s R2. there’s always R1. Yellow and green. So you want to get one that has the same corresponding letters. G for green, Y for yellow, and then you just disconnect the wires. "
