"Pinochle has its own glossary of terms. Some of the terms are indigenous to almost any other card game. We certainly talk about deals, we talk about cutting the hand, we talk about the auction or the bidding, we talk about high cards, low cards, aces and so forth, but there are some terms that are unique to Pinochle. For example, the term marriage and we'll cover that later on as well. A marriage is a king and a queen of any particular suit whether it's trump suit or whether it's an off suit. In order to have a marriage in a suit you have to have a king and a queen. A pinochle is the holding of the jack of diamonds and the queen of spades in the same hand. Now that's an interesting combination because the jack of diamonds and the queen of spades are very important cards in the game of Hearts particularly the queen of spades so is there a relationship between the two. I don't know. We have terms like roundhouse which is a marriage in all four suits, king queen, king queen, king queen, we have terms like climbing which is having to go up on suits, we have terms like aces all around and kings all around and we'll go through that as well. So the terminology to Pinochle is unique in some ways and is universal to other card games as well."
