Series Summary

Coin magic, commonly classified as "close-up magic", is the art of baffling an audience by manipulating coins and performing subtle tricks that the crowd has to be close to appreciate. Such table tricks also include card tricks, and both types of close-up magic are highly regarded as the most difficult to perfect among magicians, due to the subtlety and intricacy required by the individual performing the magic trick. In this free video clip series, a magician will reveal the secrets behind the art of coin magic, sharing tips on performing a variety of coin tricks, information on acquiring coins for magic shows and table magic shows, and general introductory information on coin magic for beginners.

Video Transcript

"Good evening, my name is Wayne Phelps. I’m a professional magician. I’ve been practicing magic for 23 years. I started two and a half years old in 1983 when David Copperfield vanished the statue of liberty. I knew back then that I was destined to become a magician. Tonight I’m going to show you some of my secrets and help teach you how to do coin magic. I’m going to talk about what type of coins are out there, where you can buy these coins and then I’m going to work on some very, very simple very basic manipulations and slides using these coins. I’m going to talk a little bit about the French drop, the pinch drop, the back palm, a classic palm, a finger palm what I called flip vanish, retention vanish and coin roll and I’m going to talk about the gimmicks and gags as well. Fake coins that are made look like real coins, where you can buy them and I’m going to show you two effects using two of my favorites gimmicks, a flipper coin and an expanded shell, you’re going to learn a lot and the next thing you know, you’ll be calling yourself a coin magician."
