You know it is surprising how the science of using the pedal is a miss read especially one of the pedals the sostenuto pedal. But let's start with the sustain pedal there are two ways of utilizing the sustain pedal. The sustain is the first pedal on the right which you press if you want the chords to ring out. Now we have indirect pedaling and direct pedaling. Direct pedaling means every time you press a chord you press down on the pedal. Now you can hear there is a difference on the sound of each one of these. Now this one is indirect pedaling which would be I hit the strike chord first then push the pedal."
