"STEVE CAVERNO: Steve Caverno on behalf of Expert Village, here today to talk to you about formatting and play production. Now, you got your script written. You think it's the best thing that's ever been written by anyone else. You think this script is going to be the most entertaining play of the year. Okay, how do you market your script? Okay, well, first off, you want to look back at some of the things we've already talked about. Okay, what kind of genre is your script? Is it a comedy? Well, is it an adult comedy? Is it a comedy that can even be performed by young actors? Is it--could it be marketed to a high school? There's also children's plays which is a good market. There are many other markets out there as well. There's regional theaters which can be often be looking for experimental, new plays. There are also theaters that look to perform a certain play. There are theaters that want to perform plays without sets, a play where the actor comes onstage and it's just a blank set. And so, if you've written a play that has that blank set, that might be a theater worth sending your script to. Also, there might be a theater that wants to perform plays with animals, actors acting like animals, and that might be their thing, that might be what they want to do. Similarly, there may be theaters that want characters of a certain ethnic quality. There might be a theater that wants African-American actors in their script or gay and lesbian characters. These are ways in which you can write a script geared towards a certain market, and these are ways in which you can help your script become marketable and get it out in the world. You can't just write a script and then hope people are going to like it and not have any direct way to get that to those people. You got to kind of target, you got to kind of hone in on the bull's eye and know where you're going to, and that way you can really get your work done."
