"Okay so now that you got your shoes and you warmed up your ready to go I'm going to teach you some basic steps but first I just want to point out 2 parts of the tap shoes that you will hear referred to a lot of times in tap lessons. This obviously is the heel and this is called the ball of the foot just like this part in like physical education you learn that that's the ball of your foot. So in tap dancing when somebody refers to the ball there talking about this entire section of your tap shoes, so heel, ball. Okay the very first thing we're going to learn is called a brush and what you'll do is you put your foot down on the floor like this, only use the ball of your foot pick it up and slide it forward. So from back here you just take the ball of your foot just the top part of your shoe and you slide forward. That's called a brush you want to practice it several times on both sides, brush, just make sure you get that whole tap on the floor. It can also be done on the side, the important thing to remember is that the heel never touches the ground, and that is a basic brush."
