"I'm discussing rhythms used in Rock. In this case probably more Hard Rock but what I'd like to show next is a technique called muting and it's very useful in rhythm playing. Also in lead playing but a rhythm in this case. I'm going to show you the same progression A-5, E-5 and B-5. What I'm going to show here is playing steady eighth notes between the chords. So you're keeping the time and establishing a rhythm for the progression that you're playing. So what I'm going to do here is go. And what the muting is, is simply instead of going playing it open, I'm going to mute it. I'm going to rest my palm on the string over the bridge pickup here and you have that kind of flat what they call muted sounded effect. So it gives it a little more edge to the sound of your progression. So basically what I'm going to do is mute the E string as you're playing and then on the B on the second fret. So up to speed is."
