"In this clip I'm going to discuss XLR cables. XLR cables primarily are used for microphones. But they could be important as a guitar player if you're playing an acoustic gig and you would need to amplify your guitar if it didn't have a plug on it. Now it looks similar to an instrument cable in it's construction however the plugs are different. The thing you'll see here there's three prongs on one end. This would be the male end. And the female end you'll see that's where there's holes instead of plugs. Now this cable differs from an instrument cable in that it does matter which end you use. For example if I take a microphone, here you'll notice that a microphone has the three plugs on it. You would need to use the female end to plug into the mic and then the male end would go into the amplifier."
