"NEIL HUBBARD: The bagpipe has nine notes and therefore the chanter has nine notes. The basic finger positions are like this. Again, the little finger on the left hand just kind of hangs down this way, the right thumb holds it on the back, the left thumb covers the high A hole on the top. You want to keep your fingers straight. No curling. No bending like this. On the left hand basically the pad of the fingertip covers the hole there, on the right hand the hole is covered by the padded part of the second joint under your knuckle. You point your finger slightly downward in order to cover all of these holes in a straight line."
