"KEVIN LINDENMUTH: This is Kevin Lindenmuth for Expert Village talking about distribution for your independent film or documentary. And so, with your box art, your finished program, you want to get the word out, you want to get publicity. Just find places to send it that will review it. I mean you're not going to send a documentary on American idioms to some distributor who distributes like low budget, vampire movies or something and vice versa. So, send your documentary out to like Booklist which is the library magazine, Library Video Journal, send out to local papers, contact whatever you think will cover it because the more publicity, the better. And, of course, you want to get positive reviews so that's another thing. If you're going to send it somewhere else, that's absolutely going to hate it, don't send it. There is no point. Because you use those reviews and everything for the distribution because the distributor will say, "Well, where's reviews and where has this been seen," blah, blah, blah. And then, you could have his folder that you send them so we'll check this out, check this review, check this review, and it kind of in their mind makes it something that people want to see and, of course, they want to take something and distribute something that people are going to see. So, that's a lot of work, they'll take months. So, as soon as you get the program copyrighted, start sending it off for publicity. Do that before you even send it out to any distributor because it will help with your distribution. And plus, the internet and such it stays on the computer forever. These reviews, I have reviews from ten years ago that I still see--they pop up. So, it's definitely a good thing. So, you can never get too much publicity but you gotta have some."
