Another pitfall with spelling is names. If it is someone you don't know personally, it is good to always check and double check the spelling of someone's name. For instance, you might know a Jenn, but does it have two n's or one n? Especially shorten versions of names could have multiple spellings. If you can check the company website or even call the main number and ask how someone's name is spelled that's always helpful especially in cover letter situations. I've had examples in the past where readers of my article have emailed me and had my name completely misspelled. My name is Kari, sometimes they spelled it Karl and I am like do you know that I am not a man? So its a good thing to keep in mind if you want to be taken seriously.
