Hello, I'm Stevie Moore. Welcome to my studio here at the Artists' Attic in Lexington, Kentucky. What I'm going to do now is finish filling in my background element. As you can see it's mostly greens. I'm going to start with light greens; I'm going to start with white and some Liquin again, with my medium-size square brush, and I'm going to pick up some light greens--not the lightest of the light greens--I'm just going to get some of this permanent green light. And get a nice, kind of, middle of the road green first. So it's a light green, but it's not an extremely yellowed-out light green. Although it wouldn't hurt to mix a little yellow in there. There we go, that's kind of a pleasant color, isn't it? And kind of fill out some of these tree forms. Now, none of this has to line up perfectly. We're not coloring in the lines here, this is just your background, this is just your basecoat, everything here is going to get filled up. So it's not critical what this looks like right now. Color should be your main concern, placement too, but not as much as color. Right kind of colors to mix on some other colors. We've got kind of a darker shade over here towards the right. Back behind these leaves here, which will all get covered up later. This is where you see where the Liquin comes in handy, see how it spreads right across that canvas. So I just put the Liquin right on the brush, didn't even add any paint, look what I get with that. That's what it does. Finish filling in some of these mid-ground leafy areas. Just going with the dominant color in all these spots. Then I have some light green up here in the corner, which I want to--I'm going to start adding a little sap green in here, because these are kind of the pinier trees, and darker trees. We're going to move into some darker greens, so add a little sap green in with that. And we've also got some light greens in here too. Just kind of roughing in the color. Just trying to cover up all spaces in this canvas, trying to avoid any white areas, and we're complete. Almost done here, I'm just going to kind of connect, fill in a couple little areas like I said. It doesn't have to be perfect yet. And here we have a nice basecoat. As much as you like right now, while it's still smooth, you can go in with some other colors, like some light greens now. You can start working in some areas where you're going to have highlights. Also, you can go in with some viridians. You can start working in some areas where you're going to have shadow. As long as you have that palette coated--or, the canvas coated with the first coat, you're right on the money.
