"JOEL SIEGEL: The next approach to the drum that I want to talk about is your rim shot. This is a favorite amongst beginners a lot of times, but it's your most powerful shot. It's your most powerful stroke. It's going to evoke the most sound. So this, again, a lot of times in pop music it'll come up. So, this is kind of your accent; this is your--just the biggest knife in your drawer, basically. So, your rim shot is when you hit your rim and the skin at the same time. Now, this will take a long time to develop. At first, you'll get basically one out of every five, but eventually, as hopefully, I can show you now, you'll be consistent in attacking the rim shot. It should look and sound like this."
