How to Organize a Community Festival

"Hi! My name is Jim Goettler with Expert Village and this is a video about how to produce small community festival. In this segment, I am going to go through the basics of the organizational set up that will help you put together a good festival. You need to have a small group of folks who work together and hopefully like each other, who are interested in putting together so that it does not fall on one person to do all the work. It is just too much work for one person trust me. You are going to need a couple of basic documents and these are going to be documents that you will put together and refer to throughout the process. One is going to be your budget so that you have some idea of what kind of money is coming in, what king of money is going out, what kind of expenses you are incurring as you put together the party and the second one is going to be the time line. Now a time line I generally make working backward from the event. This gives you an idea when deadlines are coming up, when bills have to be paid, when your participants have to be notified, etc. It sounds very daunting at this point but as we move through the process you will see that this all fits together very nicely and with these documents and the basic organization, you will be able to produce a festival whether or not you are an arts group, a political group or a social group. Any kind of organization pretty much has to follow these basic guidelines and you will find it's a lot of fun. In the next segment, I am going to go through the process and give you some guidelines on how to choose a location for your event that will meet all your needs and the needs of your participants.
