"Well now that we've made some sounds on our Trumpet, we're going to learn about scales. Scales are a family of notes that are all together, and when you play a scale, it will familiarize you with how the family works in with the rest of the Orchestra. So what scales help do is help the instruments all play together and know what everyone else is playing. It's part of music that is written and read, which is a whole other series. So I'm going to play the Bb major scale for Trumpet. (Plays scale.) C major scale: you go up and go down. You can find all these scales on-line, and I assume if you're on-line you can chase down these scales. And if you can read music, you can learn all more about music by reading your scales."
